The PLA resin is certified by Genescan to be free on any GE content. Using corn specifically GE corn is not an ideal feedstock but this is the beginning of a revolution of the plastics industry, one step in the right direction of moving away from our dependence on fossil fuels. Its not yet perfect but there will be other manufacturers of PLA when demand makes it commercially viable. These manufacturers will offer alternatives to the Cargill corn derived PLA. Research and development is ongoing in the quest for non agricultural feedstocks. However if we boycott the current options because of GE concerns, we are left with the alternative of plastics derived from fossil fuels which is not a good alternative and does just as much damage to our planet.
